Privacy Policy

Overview
ScatterBrains (“we,” “us,” “the app”) is an executive-function assistant that helps you capture thoughts, organize them into missions, and stay focused. ScatterBrains is operated by Perrice Consulting. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using ScatterBrains at scatterbrains.app, you agree to this policy.
Information We Collect
- Account information. When you sign in (via email or Google), our authentication provider (Clerk) gives us your email address and, if provided, your name and profile image. We store your email to identify your account.
- Content you create. The thoughts you capture, the tasks and missions you create, alignment scores, and completion status.
- Data from services you connect. If you connect Notion or Google Sheets, we access the specific data described in the “Google User Data” and “Notion Data” sections below.
- Payment information. If you subscribe to ScatterBrains Pro, our payment processor (Stripe) collects and processes your payment details directly. We never receive or store your full card number. We store only an identifier for your Stripe customer and subscription, and whether your plan is free or Pro.
- Support and feedback reports. If you send a report from the app, we store your message, your email address, the page you were on, and basic diagnostics that help us reproduce the problem — your browser and operating system, device type, language, time zone, screen size, and whether the relevant feature (such as the microphone or a connected integration) was available. We use these only to investigate and fix the issue you reported.
- Technical data. Basic information needed to run the service, such as your time zone (to display completion times in your local time) and standard request logs.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the ScatterBrains service.
- To parse and score the thoughts you capture against your active mission (see “AI Processing”).
- To sync tasks from tools you connect and write completed-task summaries back to them, when you enable those integrations.
- To secure your account and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
AI Processing
To turn a raw capture into a structured task and score how well it aligns with your mission, the text you capture is sent to Anthropic’s Claude API. Anthropic processes this text to return a structured result and, under its API terms, does not use it to train its models. We send only the capture text and your mission statement — no more than is needed to perform the task.
Google User Data (Limited Use)
If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile (email, name, profile image) solely to create and identify your account.
If you connect Google Sheets, ScatterBrains requests thespreadsheetsscope for one purpose: to write your completed tasks and completion times to a Google Sheet that you create or designate. We only write to a dedicated “ScatterBrains” tab so we never alter your existing data.
ScatterBrains’ use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not sell Google user data, do not use it for advertising, and do not use it to train generalized AI models. You can disconnect Google Sheets at any time in the app’s Settings, which revokes our stored access.
Notion Data
If you connect Notion, ScatterBrains reads the pages and databases you authorize during the connection flow, in order to import them as tasks you can focus on. Access is read-only — we do not modify your Notion content. You can disconnect Notion at any time in Settings.
Legal Bases for Processing
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we process your personal data on these bases:
- To provide the service — your account, the thoughts and tasks you capture, AI parsing and scoring, and any integration you choose to connect. Basis: performance of a contract with you.
- To take payment — subscription billing through Stripe. Basis: performance of a contract, and compliance with legal obligations such as tax and accounting record-keeping.
- To fix problems you report — the message and diagnostics attached to a feedback report. Basis: our legitimate interest in diagnosing and correcting faults in the service.
- To keep the service secure — rate limiting and abuse prevention. Basis: our legitimate interest in protecting the service and its users.
How We Share Information
We share data only with the service providers (“subprocessors”) that run ScatterBrains, and only as needed to operate the service:
- Clerk — authentication and account management
- Neon — database hosting (your tasks and missions)
- Vercel — application hosting
- Anthropic — AI parsing and scoring of captures
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing, only if you subscribe to Pro
- Google and Notion — only for the integrations you explicitly connect
We may also disclose information if required by law. We do not sell your data to third parties.
Where Your Data Is Processed
We operate from the United States, and the service providers listed above process data in the United States. If you use ScatterBrains from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, your personal data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where such a transfer requires a safeguard, we rely on the protections our providers offer for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses within their data processing agreements.
Data Security
All traffic is served over HTTPS. Access tokens for connected services (Google, Notion) are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM and are never stored in plain text. We restrict access to your data to what is necessary to operate the service.
Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your account and the content you capture for as long as your account is active. You can disconnect any integration at any time in Settings.
To delete your account, contact us at the email below. We will verify the request against your account email address and delete your account, your captured content, your missions, and your stored integration tokens within 30 days.
Two things outlive that deletion, and we want to be plain about them. Support reports are kept so we can still act on the problem you reported, but your account identifier and email address are removed from them, leaving only the report itself. Payment records are retained by Stripe under its own legal obligations, such as tax and accounting rules; we hold only your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, which are deleted with your account.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access a copy of your personal information, to correct it, to export it, to delete it, and to object to or restrict how we use it.
To exercise any of these, email us at the address below from the address on your account, which is how we verify the request. We will respond within 30 days, or within 45 days where you are a California resident and that longer period applies. Exercising these rights costs you nothing and will never affect the service you receive.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland and you believe we have handled your data improperly, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. We would rather you told us first so we can put it right, but that right is yours regardless.
Cookies and Tracking
ScatterBrains uses strictly necessary cookies only. These are set by our authentication provider to keep you signed in. They are required for the service to function and are not used to profile you.
We do not use advertising cookies, analytics, tracking pixels, session recording, or any third-party tracker, and we do not track you across other websites. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not store profiling data in your browser.
California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and why, to request deletion or correction of it, and not to be treated differently for exercising those rights.
In the past twelve months we have collected the categories described in Information We Collect above: identifiers (your email address and account identifier), commercial information (your subscription status), internet activity limited to the diagnostics attached to a support report, and the content you choose to capture.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We never have.
Children’s Privacy
ScatterBrains is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated within the app where appropriate.
